Wok is the brainchild of Federica Zambon and Simona Citarella, whose aim was to create a concept store that encourages artists and designers to explore new forms of expression and ideas. So the Wok boutique, which opened in 2007 in Milan’s Viale Col di Lana, hosts regular exhibitions and music events as well as stocking directional fashion designs for men and women. The Wok aesthetic is eclectic – pieces by a global mix of avant-garde designers like London’s Kokon to Zai rub shoulders with those from mainstream brands like Nike and Castel Bajac. There are magazines, books and cult toys, but each piece is carefully bought so the shop feels like a laboratory of great and inventive design.
Why is Wok born? Both, me and Simona, come from comunication world, even if through different paths, and with this opportunity we would like to encourage artists and designers to dedicate themselves in the reserch of new forms of expression and new ideas to comunicate. We would like to mix our italian traditional culture, byword of inspiration and creativity, with the european and extraeuropean culture as London, Nyc, Tokyo. Our customers are impressed by the uniqueness and originality of each piece of clothing, accessorize or design and this peculiarity makes WOK unique in the italian landscape. Out of the commercial activities, WOK offers art exhibitions and music sessions. During the Milan design week WOK gave hospitality to the berlin studio METROFARM and their concrete furniture and in May to the paris writer HONET, who made two beautiful paintings on the walls and espose his poraloids, both the events were washed by good music and cool vibes. Moreover constantly WOK looks for freshness from Italy and abroad as the clever rabbit Nabaztag, the useful “easy on board” and pillows from Tokyo and vintage clothing and accessorizes from London, Tokyo and Bruxelles. |
