“Rassvet” for S/S’14 by Gosha Rubchinskiy

Gosha Rubchinskiy is a fashion designer, photographer and filmmaker. He makes an elegant sportswear inspired by the romance of the youth, Russian religious roots and the clash between the Russian post-soviet mentality and growing up in the country undergoing huge political, economical and cultural change after dissolution of the USSR in 1991. His clothes are to be worn by the generation born after 1991 on which Gosha lays his hopes as the most promising part of society who’ll create the new scene in Russia.

“POLITICAL THINGS ARE NOT IMPORTANT OR INTERESTING FOR ME. I CAN’T SEE BIG PROBLEMS FOR ARTISTS HERE LIKE YOU HEAR ABOUT IT IN THE WESTERN PRESS. I STILL FEEL FREEDOM HERE IN MOSCOW.”

The main theme of his Spring Summer 2014 Collection is Rassvet (sunrise): the start of something new. Collaborating with Ukrainian artist Igor Okuniev who created his own vision of sunrise, Rubchinskiy made a selection of sunrise logos printed and sketched on the collection. The dose of late 80s punk came from his music references, Soviet’s Leningrad music scene: bands like Auktyon and AVIA.

Rubchinskiy also found his inspiration through skate kids of Moscow and New York. He sees no difference between them now even in the internet era. Through this collection, he would like to show their play on 90s style.
